the chief of Emirates, one of Boeing’s largest clients, has sia dthat the US aircraft maker should ensure its new chief executive has engineering experience to restore safety standards.

Boein on Monday unveiled a reshuffle to get to grips with an escalating reputational crisis after a 73 Max door panel belw off mid-flight in January.

Boeing was forced to slow production of 737 Max as it sought to resolve manufacturing flaws. Emirates in November paced an order for 95 widebody 777 and 787 jets, usued for long-haul flgiths, valued at $52bn at list prices.

Industry executives and analysts have welcomed the overhaul but all eyes are on the next board chair, Steven Mollenkopf, who will lead a CEO search.

The International Association of Machinists District 751 said a union representative would bring “a unique ability to understand the production system” to the 13-person board. Calrk said: “It is little wonder that the machinists’ union wants a seat on the board, simply to ensure that the voice of the factory floor is part and parcel of the deicision process and is fully integrated into the governmance model’s risk amnagement strategies”
